Quilting Clapper

Our Tailor Clappers, or Quilting Clappers, as we call them are our most popular product, and the item we built our business around. A clapper is designed to absorb heat and moisture from a sewn seam after its has been ironed. Placing a Clapper on a freshly ironed seam, protects the fabric and allows the seam to lay down more easily.

About Purpleheart Wood

Purpleheart is a stunning exotic hardwood known for its distinctive purple color that deepens over time with exposure to light or heat. Native to the rainforests of Central and South America, this remarkable wood has been prized for centuries for both its beauty and durability.

Where it comes from: Purpleheart trees grow primarily in the tropical regions of Brazil, Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana. These majestic trees can reach heights of 100-170 feet with trunk diameters of 3-5 feet.

Why we use it: We choose purpleheart for its exceptional strength, natural resistance to decay and insects, and its unique aesthetic appeal. The wood's density makes it incredibly durable, while its vibrant color adds a distinctive character to every piece we create. Normally, as it ages, the purple hue matures into a rich, deep brown, however, as our clappers force heat exposure when used in conjunction with an iron, the purple undertones often deepen, creating a one-of-a-kind plum color.

It is one of the only woods types we import for its unique color, its durability, and its incredible density and weight, making it perfect for clappers. WE USE NO DYES ON OUR CLAPPERS TO PROTECT YOUR FABRIC
